ABOUT THE PROGRAM

During the Summer of 2019, 9 students learned to process and tell their stories through 100cameras X TDYCC in Westchester County, New York USA. In partnership with The Theodore D. Young Community Center (TDYCC), a multi-purpose facility that offers educational, cultural, social, and recreational services designed to meet the needs of a diverse community. The Center provides a well-rounded choice of services and programs for youth including an After-School Program, Recreational Sports Leagues, Roller-skating, Theater Arts Classes, Dance Programs, and Entrepreneurial Programs. Each of these programs for youth is framed by the positive youth development approach and includes homework help and tutoring to support the increasing school academic demands for students. Additionally, the center operates a large summer camp in Greenburgh each year for more than 500 students, furthering their commitment to provide ongoing programs that enhance student achievement and positive youth development.

TDYCC is a known and respected pillar for the White Plains community, providing a foundationally safe place for students to go for support, friendships, and even meals or groceries whenever needed. For many hard-working parents, this after-school haven is considered an additional and trusted home for their families to be a part of.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM LEADER

Christine Wexler is a producer for documentary films and a photographer. Through the arts, she strives to create awareness and long lasting social impact of change.

The kids were quick to play with the camera settings - seeing Black and White or Sepia, I found this fascinating and encouraged the class to explain the feeling behind seeing an image in Black and White. Most felt the emotion was greater, and it felt more real.”
